Hollow Vessel #3 in Ash I turned this hollow vessel out of a piece of clear ash from a tree that was crowding a house in town, and beginning to show signs that it was not long for this world. I carved a graceful organic shape in the mouth, and burned in a unique pattern around the shoulder. The vase's wall is a fairly uniform, one quarter inch thick. It stands 8 inches tall and about 5-1/2 inches in diameter. I finished the vessel by hand with several coats of Danish oil and paste wax and it feels silky smooth. The grain of the wood is stunning. My humble attempt at photographing it does not do it justice. It has been signed and dated. Please contact me if you are interested in acquiring this lovely piece or would like more information. This vase is available at Jerry's Wood Works in Etsy.com

I use Danish oil to finish my work, sometimes beeswax on top of that. Paste wax should be reapplied periodically to maintain the warm glow of the finish and protect it from the environment. Over time, your vase's color will age and mellow. Natural aging can be reduced by protecting the vase from sunlight. Please do not place water in the vase or immerse the vase in water.
